Art is a fascinating and amazing vehicle of self-expression. It is a rewarding journey of learning and discovery. Art is an adventure motivated by the heart, with an understanding of the process developed through practice and experimentation.
Art Adventures is a working studio designed for artists of all ages with a main focus on children. The programs offered encompass a wide variety of multimedia art experiences while developing technical skills. Students are encouraged to experiment, create and share ideas in an environment that is enriched, supportive, friendly, and personal.
The groups are kept small, enabling more one-on-one instruction, individual creativity, self-expression, and fun while learning. Everyone leaves feeling proud and excited about his or her accomplishments.
WINTER SESSION 2012
Portfolio building ages 11 - 17, max of 8 per class
Date: Tues, January 17 - April 10 OR

Lines,Hatching and Shading - Combine these effects with charcoal and pastels while drawing a dog on coloured pastel paper.
Wire mask - Students will design and create a unique work of visual art as they combine media and technique. Piece will be mounted.
Graphite Embossing - Create positive and negative space in multiple dimensions. We will be working with soft metal sheets for this piece.
Still Life Painting on canvas -Learn how to correctly compose a still life and how to use various painting techniques as you create this painting.
Stabile Sculpture - Work in the likeness of Alexander Calder and create a wall Sculpture with flexible wood sheets and metal.
Drawing - Learn to draw lips and ears. Pencil and pen and ink on appropriate paper.

Assemblage Art - Art created in this manner has endless possibilities and variety. It can be very sculptural, can resemble a stage set, or confined to a box or plane. Study the images of various assemblage artist as you create your one of a kind piece.
Monochromatic painting - Learn about monochromatic colour schemes as you create this painting based on the emotion of colour. Acrylics on canvas.
Fabric Batik - We will be studying images of Batik art from various cultures before creating your own.
Drawing flowers - Learn how to draw and shade Lotus and Fuchsia flowers
Pastel Landscape - Learn various techniques in chalk pastels as you create a beautiful landscape on pastel paper.
Print making - Collagraph printing technique will be used to create an array of prints for this project. Your best print will be mated.

Multimedia- Incorporate the seven principles of design while linking the disciplines of painting and sculpture in this work of art.
Printmaking - This technique is a straight forward adaption of engraving or dry point printmaking. Best prints will be matted.
Embossed Metal Encaustics - Enjoy creating in this very unique media with modern techniques, tools and materials. Piece will be mounted.

The Shape of Things - Learn how to draw animals and objects with depth and thickness. Pencil and conte on appropriate paper.
Cast handmade paper - Learn the three stage process of paper casting. Finished pieces will be enhanced with acrylics and watercolours and mounted.
Watercolour Still Life - Compose your own still life then draw and paint with watercolour pencils and paints on 140lb cold press paper.
Children Christmas/ Holiday workshop 2011
Have lots of fun while creating Magical Glitter Elves with various forms of media.
These glitter people are able to stand up on their own and are great to give as a gift or keep as your own.
