Art is a fascinating and amazing vehicle of self-expression. It is a rewarding journey of learning and discovery. Art is an adventure motivated by the heart, with an understanding of the process developed through practice and experimentation.

Art Adventures is a working studio designed for artists of all ages with a main focus on children. The programs offered encompass a wide variety of multimedia art experiences while developing technical skills. Students are encouraged to experiment, create and share ideas in an environment that is enriched, supportive, friendly, and personal.

The groups are kept small, enabling more one-on-one instruction, individual creativity, self-expression, and fun while learning. Everyone leaves feeling proud and excited about his or her accomplishments.


WINTER SESSION 2010


Portfolio Building

Date:Tuesday Jan 12 - March 23  or
        Thursday Jan 14 - March 25
Time: 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Ages: 11 - 17yrs

Abstract - multimedia
Discover the abstract artist in you. Learn about various abstract artist (Piet Mondrian, Franz klien, Kazimir Malevich, Clyfford Still ) and how they interpreted the world around them using a visual language of line, form and colour to create a composition. You will then create your own piece using various media on canvas.

Drawing facial expressions - Charcoal
When we look at someone we usually focus on the face first, then on the eyes. We will be studying the eyes and eyebrows and how they work together to achieve various expressions in our drawings.

Relief Sculpture - Clay
Students will be studying various forms then incorporating them into a relief image emerging from a clay tile. This is a very interesting form of sculpting.

Still Life Drawings & Shading - Conte crayons
This project will be an exercise in tonal value and how to capture the feeling of the light. We will be completing a series of three small 4' x 5' drawings of various subject matter.

Silk Painting
Create a one of a kind painting with new resist techniques and vibrant silk dyes.  We will design a variety of images before choosing one.The paintings will be mounted and matted so parents can pop them into a frame.

Paper Mache
Insects and reptiles are fun to create in this media. We will be using a new form of paper pulp to work with then painting and varnishing the piece.

Still Life on canvas - acrylics on canvas
Children will paint a beautiful still life while we continue to learn about form and shadows as well as how to achieve textured brush strokes.

Inky Beetles - multi media
Create beautiful images on heavy paper using inks, chalk pastels and watercolours. These pieces will be matted.


Children Workshops

Easter: Silk Cards
Date: Saturday March 27

Have your young artist create beautiful silk painted Easter cards (envelopes included) for family and friends. Treats included.


Mothers Day: Landscape on canvas
Date: Saturday May 1
Time: 1:00- 3:00pm
Cost: $24.00 +GST

Paint a beautiful miniature landscape for Mom or Grandma which will be framed and ready to hang on the wall.


Spring 2010

Silk Painting - Design and create a beautiful painting on silk using various techniques, and silk dyes. Piece will be mounted.

Mobile Sculptures - Study the fascinating work of artist and sculptors Alexander Calder and Timothy Rose. Students will design and create with wire, wood, metal, and paints as they fashion mobiles that will undulate on their own with the air's currents.

Drawing - Students will continue to learn more about the principals of drawing. We will be using pencil and conte crayons.

Please note; if a student needs to complete specific portfolio requirements for entrance into an art institution it can be addressed within our portfolio classes through out  the year.  Please call for further information.

Drawing and painting Fur and Feathers - Animals have a variety of fur or smooth skin with patterns. Feathers can be striped, spotted or plain. Learn how to draw and paint them. 
We will be using a variety of media for this project.

Still Life Drawing - Strengthen your drawing and observational skills. Learn more about composition, form and shading.

Mini Mobile Sculptures - This is an introduction to the world of mobile sculptures and how to build them. We will first view pictures of various types of mobiles and the drawings from which these sculptors created their pieces before creating your own.


ADULT CLASSES

Date: Monday January 18 - March 8
Time: 7:00 - 9:00pm

 Print Making
There is something for every one with this media. Printmaking covers an impressively wide range of pictorial matter and techniques. We will be working on a Linotype cut,a form of Relief printing for this session. We will first design images then carve into different types of lino blocks. We will  print on various papers with water based printing inks using various types of processes including a small print press. A couple of your prints will be matted.


Adult Weekend Workshops

Acrylics on Canvas or heavy watercolour paper
Date: Sunday February 21 & 28
Time: 10:00 - 3:30 pm
Cost: $150.00 + GST including all supplies

Max of 6 participants

Create a painting using Heavy body acrylics, Fluid acrylics and various texture creating media.
Subject matter will be students choice. When booking this workshop we will discuss the types of subject matter that will be appropriate for this session. This is for the beginner or intermediate
student.


Silk Painting
Date: Sunday March 14 & 21 OR April 11 & 18

Max 6 participants

Enjoy the beauty of the painted silk and how to create with various types of resist techniques.
You will design images then choose one to create a painting, throw pillow or a scarf. Students are required to bring images or drawings of subject matter that are of interest to them to work from. There will also be reference books in the studio. Beginner to advanced.
